Ingredients
500 g schnitzel-style steaks
2 sheets Nori
1 tsp wasabi paste
2 tsp light soy sauce
2 tsp vegetable oil
24 sturdy toothpicks
Extra soy sauce to serve
Method
- Flatten one side of beef with meat mallet
- Combine wasabi, oil and soy. Brush over flattened side of beef
- Top with nori sheets liimmed to match. With the longest edge towards you, roll up beef to form a log
- Cut 25mm thick slices from log and secure with toothpicks or small skewers keeping cut side up
- Heat 20 ml oil in large frying pan over moderate heat. Cook beef for 3 - 4 minutes on each side until well browned
- Recipe Notes: Wasabi is Japanese horseradish. It is usually available in tubes. When measuring wasabi, keep in mind that it has quite a sliong, hot flavor
- Nori is Japanese toasted seaweed. Nori sheets are also used to prepare sushi
Tips
- Serve with light soy sauce for dipping
